CETREL’s incineration process achieves the destruction efficiency of 99.9999% of PCBs as required by its Operating License. Since 1991, more than 385,000 tonnes of waste have been destroyed, with over 145,000 tonnes of solid waste and over 240,000 tonnes of liquid waste. Of this total, more than 15,000 t of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were treated in the process. PCBs are chlorinated aromatic compounds whose family consists of up to 709 different compounds and are insulating oils used in transformers, capacitors and other electrical equipment. It is commercially known as Ascarel or Askarel, among other names such as Aroclor, Pyralene, Clorophen, Inerteen, Asbetol and Kneclor. CETREL was the first company in Brazil to have its incinerators licensed for thermal destruction of PCBs.

|It has Sulzer technology and is qualified and licensed to ensure the thermal destruction of 10,000 t/year of hazardous, organochlorine waste, based on a PCS (higher calorific value) of 3,322 Kcal/Kg. With a combustion temperature of up to 1,350 °C and a residence time of more than 3 seconds, it ensures destruction and removal efficiency of EDR ≥ 99.9999% and combustion efficiency ≥ 99.99%.||Powered by Andersen 2000 Inc. – USA technology, it is qualified and licensed to ensure the thermal destruction of 5,000 t/year of hazardous organochlorine solid or pasty wastes based on a 2,094 Kcal/Kg PCS (higher calorific value). With a combustion temperature of up to 1100°C and a residence time of more than 4 seconds, it ensures destruction and removal efficiency of EDR ≥ 99.9999% and combustion efficiency ≥ 99.99%.|
